Lead Teacher
Amy Hinsley is a special education teacher with more than 20 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, and young adults in school, community, and individualized learning settings.
She holds an M.A. in Special Education from Appalachian State University and a B.A. in Psychology from Clemson University and is licensed in North Carolina in K–12 Exceptional Children, Middle School English Language Arts, and High School English.
Amy has extensive experience working with neurodivergent learners, including students with ADHD and autism, with a focus on executive functioning, self-advocacy, emotional regulation, academic skills, and growing independence.
Her approach is relationship-based and skill-building, combining clear structure and explicit teaching with the flexibility to respond to the individual student.
Amy was drawn to Focus Plus Academy because its collaborative approach and focus on understanding each student closely reflect the kind of learning environment she has valued throughout her career. She also enjoys bringing movement, nature, creativity, and experiential learning into education. Amy has completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training and has been involved in school and community gardening for more than 15 years.
