Focus Plus Academy is a private middle and high school designed for bright, capable students who benefit from structure, executive functioning support, movement, coaching, and a more intentional school day.
Focus Plus Academy is designed to serve students in grades 6–12.
For the 2026–2027 school year, Focus Plus Academy will open with grades 6–9. We plan to grow thoughtfully toward a full 6–12 program.

Focus Plus Academy is an approved Direct Payment School for NCSEAA K–12 scholarship programs, including the Opportunity Scholarship and ESA+. Depending on a family’s eligibility and award amount, these scholarships may cover the cost of tuition or significantly reduce the amount a family pays out of pocket.

NCSEAA K–12 scholarship programs help eligible North Carolina families pay for nonpublic K–12 education. The two main programs families may ask about are the Opportunity Scholarship and the Education Student Accounts (ESA+) Scholarship.
The Opportunity Scholarship helps eligible North Carolina families pay for tuition and required fees at registered private schools. The ESA+ Scholarship is designed for eligible North Carolina students with disabilities and may help pay for private school tuition, fees, and other approved education-related expenses.
Focus Plus Academy is an approved NCSEAA Direct Payment School. If a student is awarded the Opportunity Scholarship, the ESA+ Scholarship, or both, families may select Focus Plus Academy as their school choice and have eligible scholarship funds applied toward tuition. Students who receive both scholarships must be enrolled in a Direct Payment School in order to use both awards.

Yes. Some students may be eligible to receive both the Opportunity Scholarship and the ESA+ Scholarship. These students are often referred to as dual award recipients by NCSEAA.
Students who receive both scholarships must be enrolled in a Direct Payment School in order to use both awards. Focus Plus Academy is an approved Direct Payment School.
Families should apply directly through NCSEAA and review current eligibility requirements, award amounts, deadlines, and program rules for each scholarship. Scholarship eligibility and awards are determined by NCSEAA, not Focus Plus Academy.
Accepting an Opportunity Scholarship or ESA+ Scholarship does not automatically enroll a student at Focus Plus Academy. Families must also complete the Focus Plus Academy admissions process.
NCSEAA confirms that students can receive both scholarships and that students receiving both must be enrolled in a Direct Payment School to use both awards. NCSEAA also states that accepting a scholarship does not enroll a student in a school; families still follow the enrollment process for their school of choice.
Yes. Focus Plus Academy teachers are licensed, credentialed educators who are uniquely qualified to work with the students we serve.
In addition to their professional training and experience, our teachers are selected for their ability to support students who benefit from structure, executive functioning skill-building, encouragement, flexibility, and a school day designed with how they learn in mind.
Our teachers are also passionate about supporting the mission of Focus Plus Academy and helping students grow in confidence, independence, and real-world readiness.
Focus Plus Academy’s academic program is designed to align with North Carolina standards.
Our model combines structured academics with executive functioning skill-building and coaching, movement, life skills, and support throughout the school day.
At this time, Focus Plus Academy does not offer before- or after-school care. Please plan for students to be dropped off and picked up during the scheduled drop-off and pick-up windows.
As the school grows, we plan to add this service in the future.
An IEP is not required to apply.
However, we ask families to share any documents that help us better understand the student’s learning profile and support needs. This may include an IEP, psychoeducational evaluation, educational testing, speech-language evaluation, occupational therapy evaluation, or other relevant documentation.
These documents help us determine whether Focus Plus Academy is the right fit and whether we can appropriately support the student.
Focus Plus Academy does not provide a school lunch program at this time.
Students should bring their own lunch, snacks, and a water bottle each day.
Focus Plus Academy is designed to maintain a 5:1 student-to-staff ratio.
In some settings or parts of the school day, the ratio may be even smaller.
Focus Plus Academy is a Monday through Friday school, with regular school days Monday through Thursday and an early release schedule on Fridays.
Monday–Thursday: 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Friday early release: 8:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

Focus Plus Academy follows a traditional school-year calendar, with the school year beginning in August and ending in late May or early June, depending on the year.
Our calendar includes school breaks, holidays, teacher work days, and scheduled early release Fridays. Focus Plus Academy’s calendar may not match local public school calendars exactly, so families should review the annual school calendar for specific dates.

Focus Plus Academy does not provide speech therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, or clinical services at this time.
Families may choose to arrange outside services privately. Focus Plus Academy can review outside recommendations as part of understanding a student’s learning profile and support needs.
